Teaching babies sign language

A PRIMARY school teacher has swapped life at the chalkface to start her own business teaching sign language to babies.
Rachel Downs, a 36-yearold mother-of-two from Chester-le-Street, who has taught for more than 14 years, was inspired by teaching her own children sign language and has taken out a franchise of TalkFirst, which encourages babies to learn sign language before they can talk.
Classes will be held in Durham, Chester-le-Street and Lanchester from September.
